Week 90 — Birdy!
Full length week last week, fun-size week this week! On Monday we have one of our quarterly refresh days at work. They’re exactly what they sound like, a day off each quarter that everyone gets, so no work is being generated for you while you’re out. Still doesn’t change the fact that there is a pile of work to do when we do get back, but it’s nice to have a day off!
Last week was pretty quiet! Sebby was sick for most of it, so we got to hang out at home while he was unable to go to daycare. On Thursday we had a couple of meetings to attempt to attend together, the first one he slept through entirely (which, was nice for him to get a good stretch of sleep!). The next one we had penciled in for 2 hours, but when it came to chew gum and kick butt, we realised we were all out of gum, so we went straight to butt kicking and knocked what we had to do out in 10 minutes! He did fall asleep again shortly after, though 😂
Later on Thursday Clare and I went line-dancing! It’s such a fun way to shake out the day, learn a new skill and have a fun boogie all at the same time! Definitely one where repetition helps. By the time ~you~ I learn 80% of a dance, we’re on to the next! But I love it! It’s a really fun activity to do with someone special in your life (who knows maybe we go pro?), and it’s amazing to see how complex some of the dances get, and people just nail them!! And you might think, hey, there’s a finite number of steps, just put them in a different order! But like, the transition to other steps and changes in timing really make it a combinatorial minefield of things to learn, so it’s much easier just to vibe it ☺️
Sebby has been obsessed with spotting birds at home. He’ll go from window to window and point and shout “birdie?”. It’s super cute. And when there is a birdie he gets incredibly excited and will sit and watch it (excitedly exclaiming “birdie!”) until it moves on 🥰. So on Saturday we went with Clare to the walk in Aviary! It took a while for him to warm up to all the birds, but he eventually found his confidence and was running around spotting birdies like a champ! Not a huge fan of them landing on him, though. Which makes sense, it’d be like a bird the size of your torso landing on an adult 😆. He was also super gentle with them all. Gently hovering his hand and moving away if they turned to shoo him off!
This morning was Mother’s Day — we FaceTimed Mum and Sebby was very excited to see her. Pointing at the phone screen and calling out YiaYia! Then he found the FaceTime reactions, and making balloons fly over his face was all that mattered ☺️
Later in the morning we went off to the farmers market to pick up some bananas for Seb (because I had run out and that was apparently a crime 😆). We met Clare there and had a great play in the leaves (after a banana and a babycino of course — which he was really good at drinking from the takeaway cup!). Sebby made a few new friends of all ages and after a few bites of a pastry it was clear a nap was needed. So we hopped back in the car and went to visit his nana with some flowers before getting back in the car for a nap 😴
