Week 97 — Stardew, grandparents and hockey

  • An eventful week this week!

  • Mum and Costa have been up in Canberra to visit from Melbourne this week. They spent both weekends hanging out with Sebby and Me, and then the rest of the week hanging out in my garden doing some tidying! Costa bought Sebby up a soccer ball and an AFL footy, and the boy is a natural at kicking around a soccer ball! He mainly just runs forward with the ball at his feet, but it looks professional 😊

  • Sebby was incredibly cute with my mum — calling her yiayia and asking for her and when she would be back when she was away 🥹. One Saturday afternoon, they popped by and entered via the back gate (because we were already outside playing), and the next morning he walked up to the gate and said "yiayia? yiayia?" while looking at me and pointing. He's such an incredibly observant delightful little boy 🥰

  • We went to the pub a few nights for dinner together — which was my first time back at the Kingo in a long while!

  • I have been running the iOS and macOS 27 betas and much to my delight they work really well! I have a conversation going with a friend who is also a parent, where we share recipes. I am always too lazy to write them out once I have tried them, but now I can ask Siri to give me a summary of the recipes mentioned and pull out the ones I have yet to try!

  • Clare and I have also been getting (back) into Stardew Valley — it is so much fun as a co-op experience!! So cute running around doing your quests and then seeing your fellow farmer run past you out in the world or out in town. Or have someone to go delving into the mines or water plants with! The iPadOS version of the multiplayer experience is a bit buggy, I often find myself unable to control my farmer in the mines (especially while being swarmed with enemies!), but other than that, it is pretty stable and is quite accurate at reflecting the state of both worlds across devices!

  • I have been making some more updates to the macOS client for grouse.site to enable some more Mac-native affordances — like dragging a text file on to the editor to create a post, and dragging images and posts out of the editor, which has been a really fun and illuminating experience. There are so many cases to consider the moment you have a drag-start / drag-stop event to handle!

  • Sebby, Clare and I went off to the Ice Hockey on Sunday which was so fun! Sebby had a ball, and requested more music every time there was a goal or stoppage of play. Thankfully we won 7-3 so there were plenty of moments for dancing to the music :) And Collin and his Zamboni were a big hit for adults and children alike!

We were also there for Canberra Brave's inaugural Teddy Bear Toss! A tradition in which after the home team's first goal for the game, the crowd throws down a teddy bear on to the ice for collection and distribution to various charities :)
